USA Christian Reception | American Wedding

THE FIRST HOUR – While the bride and groom are taking pictures, the people waiting at the reception are getting bored and drunk.  Do not open the bar until after the food is served is one way to avoid the drunk issue and you could encourage “the cousins” to entertain in the meantime.  I've seen magic, karaoke, jokes, ethnic dances etc.

It doesn’t seem like it now, but the way you enter your reception will be a very memorable moment for you and your groom. It will be the first time you
enter a room as one, in front of a room full of the people that you care about.  Maybe LIKE THIS

SPOTLIGHT DANCES AT THE RECEPTION - hire a great DJ to make it fun!
·        BRIDE/GROOM DANCE  - The “Stars” of the show go first, so you might want to consider dancing lessons.  Maybe you could do this? - I'm not joking
·        WEDDING PARTY DANCE – Avoid a romantic song unless each member of the wedding party has a date to dance with, your best bet is to play a fun upbeat song to get the party really started….  Bonus points, invite all guests to join in 1 minute into the song!  Maybe This?
·         Romantic Couples SET – A 20-30 minute DJ set of “Instantly Recognizable & Danceable” songs that specifically caters to the "Couples” guests  They probably brought the best presents, probably traveled the furthest, and will leave the earliest.  Lil Jon can wait.  You might like THIS  or  THIS or  THIS or  THIS

·        BOUQUET and GARTER – Ladies first…  Popular favorites are  This ONE  or maybe THIS one.  Make sure that prior to your first dance, your bouquet is positioned at the DJ’s table and ready to go.  Part 1 - Bouquet Toss: All single women are asked to join the bride for the bouquet toss. Bride tosses bouquet to single women (the bride usually has a separate bouquet to toss).  One lady will catch the bouquet. Tradition has it that whoever catches the bouquet - who gets to keep it, by the way, will be the next one married and is a symbol of luck to find someone great to love whether marriage is the outcome or not.   It's also a symbol of having a strong connection to the bride.

Part 2 - GARTER Removal song – Want to avoid the embarrassing?  Keep the garter at “calf-high”  The removal of the garter dance can be so much fun!  Dance instructions might be needed - could do a hip-hop routine!  Garter Removal: The bride sits in a chair in the middle of the dance floor. The groom removes the garter from the bride's leg. Follow the directions in the above video, if desired.  Sometimes, the groom wants to do his thing surrounded by his groomsmen - LIKE THIS!

Part 3 - Garter Toss: The groom tosses the garter to the single men and whoever catches it is supposed to be the next man of the group to get married or not and find someone wonderful to love to build a future with etc.  It's also a symbol of having a strong connection to the groom, as he is symbolically spreading his good luck or mojo.   Tonight’s the Night by Rod Stewart or THIS ONE are always great toss songs!

Part 4 - Garter +  Bouquet toss winner dance:  Try the Blurred Lines Line dance  or electric slide dance (Marcia Griffith version)!  After a few minutes of whirling the bouquet and garter in the air dancing the DJ invites all singles to join, then later he will yell "SNOWBALL" and everyone dancing will invite someone not dancing to the floor and the DJ will continue yelling SNOWBALL until everyone is up dancing.  If a lot of people are present then the DJ might run the two songs back to back.

FATHER/DAUGHTER DANCE – You have everyone’s attention during the bouquet and garter toss, time to transition into a dance with your proud papa.

MOTHER/SON DANCE – You want to pick the song, but letting your future Mother-in-Law have her way makes the next Thanksgiving dinner a lot less stressful.

DOLLAR DANCE – Set a limit (3-4 songs), and instead of sappy romantic songs (Piano song)  is a great substitute or Joe Cocker),  or   this --remember you may have to dance with your father’s work buddies.  Maybe the dollar dance isn't your thing… Remember it’s not about the money, ok maybe it is:) but everyone wants special one-on-one time with you, why not raise money for a cause that's close to your heart?  We had a bride recently hand out Breast Cancer Awareness ribbons to everyone that participated.  OR have a fun dance off!  Get it all on video!
